Where to Find Your Numbers

Not sure where to get product cost and pricing data? Here's exactly where to look.

🏷️

Sale Price & COGS

What you sell for and what it costs you

  • 1In Shopify → Products → select a product → Pricing section. Sale price is shown, cost per item is below it.
  • 2If COGS isn't in Shopify, check your supplier invoices — unit cost including any import duties or freight.
  • 3In Shopify Analytics → Finances → Cost of goods — you can export a product-level cost report.
Tip: Include landed cost (freight, customs, duties) in your COGS figure — not just the supplier price.
🚚

Shipping Cost per Product

What it costs you to fulfil each item

  • 1Check your carrier invoices (Australia Post, Sendle, DHL) — total shipping paid ÷ orders shipped.
  • 2Heavier or bulky products cost more to ship — calculate per-product if there's significant variance.
  • 3Only include costs you absorb. If the customer pays full shipping, enter $0.
Tip: Include packaging materials and pick-and-pack labour time in your shipping cost — it adds up at volume.
📈

Conversion Rate & Payment Fee

Used to calculate max viable CPC

  • 1Conversion rate: Shopify Analytics → Overview → "Online store conversion rate". Use 90-day average.
  • 2Payment fee: Check your gateway dashboard. Shopify Payments is 1.4–1.75%; Stripe is 1.7% + $0.30 (AU).
  • 3Override the payment fee per product if some products use different gateways (e.g. Afterpay has different rates).
Tip: Paid traffic often converts differently to organic. If you know your Google Ads CVR, use that for more accurate CPC estimates.
